EarthFirst PLA compostable shrink films

WCAFI ensures that all elements used in the production of the Clean Air Tree Kits are environmentally friendly.  We use potato starch for the globe and corn starch for the sleeve.  We hope that we can encourage other companies to use new and innovative materials like EarthFirst PLA compostable shrink films.

Safety Seal Plastics Inc uses EarthFirst PLA compostable shrink films to produce the protective wrap for our kits.  Below is a little information about the PLA life cycle (taken from EarthFirst's website)

     

      PLA life cycle

       

      1. Plants are harvested
      2. Plants are fermented into dextrose
      3. Dextrose is catalyzed into the PLA polymer: IngeoTM polymer
      4. Products, like EarthFirst® PLA film are made with the polymer
      5. Products are composted in an industrial facility
      6. Compost is used to grow more plants
